This album cover by Madonna uses intertextuality to allow the audience to have a reference back to something. Most people refer to Maralyn Monroe as a glamorous, famous icon with a lot of sex appeal. Through using a famous image of her and placing Madonna's face inside it, allows people to see her in the same way they thought of Maralyn. However, the Madonna album cover has weaker colours, and i think is more sexual then the print of Maralyn. The background is also more dark and rusty looking suggesting she is careless.
